Happy New Year, Goal Setters!

New Year's Resolutions are notoriously fraught with stories of failure.

Accomplishing big goals requires an understanding that doing so takes time and patience. It also requires approaching those goals a bit differently.

I realize I'm running the risk of putting in front of you even more ideas on goal setting. But stay with me.

Maybe you'd prefer not to deal with resolutions, consider this, instead of changing external things like your weight, your exercise routine, or what you eat daily, think of incorporating the ideas below based on internal changes:

  • Accept yourself more deeply.

  • Speak more gently to yourself.

  • Quickly forgive yourself for simple mistakes.

  • Be more kind to others.

  • Give unconditional love to others.

A steady diet of purposefully being kind and gentle with yourself and others will gradually show improvement in all areas of your life. It could be just what you need to reach some of those other goals.

Once we soften our internal dialogue the bigger goals you have in mind are more attainable.

Here's a strategy to make sure you stay focused on your goals throughout the year. Consider Turtle Steps. (Did you know a Turtle symbolizes resilience and optimism? I think it fits beautifully into this idea.)

We live in a world that applauds the swift and sensational, where the idea of slow and steady progress might seem a bit out of place. You know the tale of the tortoise and the hare - that classic fable isn't just a bedtime story; it's a life lesson. It's about taking "turtle steps" – those small, steady actions that, over time, add up to something truly incredible.

Let's dive into the art of turtle steps and explore how these tiny movements can lead you to colossal victories.

Understanding Turtle Steps:

So, what exactly are turtle steps? It's where you break a big goal into bite-sized pieces. Instead of trying to accomplish a large goal in one fell swoop, you parse it out into smaller pieces. It's about making progress, and celebrating small wins, one step at a time.

What turtle steps require:

  1. Setting Clear Objectives: Think of your big goal as a treasure hunt. Start by setting crystal-clear objectives that make your goal tangible. Let's make them SMART – Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound.

  2. Creating a Roadmap: Imagine your goal is a road trip. Plot the journey, mark the pit stops, and set milestones. This roadmap will be your guide, showing you the twists and turns, and helping you stay on track. Keep in mind, life is ever-changing. Be ready to dance with it. Learn from the rhythm of your journey, adjust your steps, and keep on moving.

  3. Consistent Daily Actions: Turtle steps thrive on consistency. Dedicate a daily dose of time to your goal. It's like watering a plant; even if it's just a sprinkle, those drops add up over time. Turn those turtle steps into a routine. Make them habits. Soon, you'll be moving through your tasks without even thinking about it.

  4. Celebrating Small Wins: Your journey is filled with mini-victories – acknowledge them! Do a little happy dance, and revel in the fact that you're moving forward.

In a world where everyone's racing, be the turtle. It's not about zooming to the finish line; it's about enjoying the journey. So, put on your favorite sneakers, and let's turtle step through your goals together. Remember, it's the small steps that lead to the big wins. You've got this! 🐢

Happy New Year!
